Conexiones entre Mundos - Smoking, Drugs, and Alcohol Policy

 

Audience: All staff, students, and guests of Conexiones entre Mundos including those participating in Conexiones entre Mundos classes, programs, or in Conexiones entre Mundos sponsored events are covered by this policy.

 

Purpose and Objectives: Conexiones entre Mundos is committed to providing a safe, healthy and secure environment for all our employees and guests, and for those engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos programs or in Conexiones entre Mundos sponsored events. This policy is designed to eliminate the risks inherent in the use or abuse of tobacco, drugs and alcohol. 

 

Policy Scope/Coverage: This policy applies to all Conexiones entre Mundos employees, students, contractors, trainees, guests, and people engaged in an unpaid capacity. This policy applies to all of those who are engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos or on Conexiones entre Mundos premises, or staff, students, or guests participating in Conexiones entre Mundos programs whether on of off the premises of Conexiones entre Mundos.

 

Policy Statement Smoking: Conexiones entre Mundos has a responsibility to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all persons engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos. The following aims to minimize the harmful effects of passive smoking and its related discomfort to others, as well as providing a safe and healthy environment. Smoking is a recognized health hazard and as such is not permitted in the following areas:

• Conexiones entre Mundos buildings or classrooms 

• In the vicinity of outdoor eating areas

• Conexiones entre Mundos Company Vehicles 

• Designated non-smoking areas 

• Within 5 meters of any Conexiones entre Mundos building/area entrances/doorways 

 

Smoking is permitted only in the designated smoking areas, and is the responsibility of all using these areas to ensure that cigarette butts are disposed of properly.

 

Alcohol and Drugs: Conexiones entre Mundos has a zero tolerance to drugs and alcohol and no employee or guest or student is to commence work, or return to work while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The possession and/or use of medications, including prescribed and over-the-counter drugs, is prohibited except when prescribed by a medical practitioner or permitted by law. No employee or guest or student or other person shall unlawfully possess, use, sell, or distribute illicit drugs while engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos or on Conexiones entre Mundos premises. In the event that illicit drugs are found on Conexiones entre Mundos premises, the police will be informed where illicit substances are identified or suspected and are known to be in possession. Individuals who are aware of persons engaging with Conexiones entre Mundos and are involved in drug related activities that have the potential to harm others, should immediately advise the Conexiones entre Mundos Directors who will determine if police need to be advised. 

 

Prescription Drugs: All employees, guests, students and all of those engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos have an obligation to inform the Conexiones entre Mundos Directors of the use of certain prescription drugs if there is risk of the prescription drug affecting their work ability; for example if the prescription drug causes drowsiness, headaches, nausea etc. All have the responsibility to check with the treating medical practitioner to ensure the use of the drug will not impact on their performance. Conexiones entre Mundos will treat any requests for assistance from any employee or others engaged with Conexiones entre Mundos who volunteers the information that they have a drink or drug related problem sympathetically. During any regime of treatment the individual would remain subject to the requirements of this policy while at work or on the Conexiones entre Mundos property, or while engaged in Conexiones entre Mundos sponsored events. Assistance and support will be offered to those where there is a perceived or identified substance abuse or dependency problem. 

 

Consequences for Breach of Policy: Conexiones entre Mundos Directors and staff are all responsible for monitoring and enforcing this policy. Conexiones entre Mundos views any breach of this policy as extremely serious. Depending on the severity of the breach, employees may face disciplinary action which may result in up to and including dismissal. Guests, students, and those participating in Conexiones entre Mundos programs or Conexiones entre Mundos sponsored events may be asked to leave the program(s), classes, or Conexiones entre Mundos sponsored events they are involved in, and no refund will be provided.
